We are inviting the software development community to submit talks for Code PaLOUsa 2017 which will be held June 7 - 9, 2017 at the Ramada Plaza Louisville Hotel and Conference Cneter in Louisville, KY. Code PaLOUsa is an annual multi-day software development conference designed to cover all aspects of software development regardless of technology stack. This Call for Speakers will close on Saturday, February 18, 2017.

June 7, 2017 will be our pre-conference day where we will be offering our attendees half-day (4-hour) and full-day (8-hour) workshops. Some possible topics could include in-depth and/or hands-on workshops for:

But do not let these suggestions limit you on your submissions, if the workshop has something to do with software development then we are interested in considering it for Code PaLOUsa.

We will be taking speaker submissions until 4:00:00 AM UDT on Saturday, February 18, 2017. We will send our speaker notifications by Sunday, February 26, 2017 and the schedule will be released on Wednesday, March 1, 2017

There will be 84 sixty-minute session and a number to be determined of workshops spread across the following topic areas:

Speaker Selection

Selecting the best speakers for Code PaLOUsa is a long and difficult process as we receive so many inspiring abstracts from truly impassioned people. When reviewing potential speakers and session abstracts, we remove all identifying information from the speaker (name, bio, email, gender, etc.) while we are reviewing the proposals to avoid any subconscious bias. We always strive for a good mix of speakers and so we encourage everyone to submit one or more proposals.

We begin reviewing sessions the moment they are submitted and hope to have all of the sessions reviewed within a couple days of the Saturday, February 18, 2017 submission deadline. Once all of the sessions are reviewed, we select the sessions that best fit the conference as a whole while building the schedule at the same time. We will send out notifications by the evening of Sunday, February 26, 2017 so that speakers have a final chance to confirm that they will be available to speak at Code PaLOUsa 2017. The complete schedule will be released to the public on Wednesday, March 1, 2017

If You Are Selected as a Speaker

All speakers get a single free ticket to attend all three days of the conference. We also agree to pay for 2 nights (3 nights for pre-conference workshop speakers) of your hotel room. We pay the hotel directly, you do not have to wait for a reimbursement. You will also be invited to the speaker dinner.

Please let us know if you have any special requirements and we will try to accommodate. Please remember that this is a community conference brought to you by volunteers in our industry – your peers. We are a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to support and educate our great community while having some fun.

Presentation Guidelines

Code PaLOUsa is like most conferences. We welcome people of all disciplines and background to talk about a wide variety of platforms and technologies. We want our presentations to engage the audience, spark discussion, and inspire new ideas. The following is a list of things to consider when writing your proposal and presentation. Please do not feel constrained to fulfilling all of these, they serve as guidelines, not rules, and there may be many valid reasons to break them.

We Can Help

Not everybody is a natural talent on stage. Not everybody can produce out of the world slide decks. Not everyone is a demo king. And not everybody knows that they have something great to talk about.

There are about a million reasons why you do not consider yourself a speaker, but we are here to prove you wrong. If all you have is a gut feeling that you should be on stage, we are here to help you develop or hone the skills you think you lack to deliver a great presentation.

Here are some things we can help you out with:
